Buffalo Tented Camp
Buffalo is one of Namibia’s most secluded regions— and that’s part of its appeal. An area of mopane and Zambezi teak, deep sand and slow river - one of Namibia's fiercely guarded corners.
Buffalo Tented Camp sits deep in the Buffalo Core Area of Bwabwata National Park, where elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, lion and wild dog move through this country much as they always have, unhurried and untroubled by crowds.
The days find their own rhythm, from birdsong at first light to slow drives and evenings beneath a sky filled with stars. This is a tented camp, not a grand hotel, offering closeness to the animals, the water and the slower pace of a place still left to itself.
We share this ground with the Khwe San, whose knowledge of the land guides how we do things. Staying here helps protect this vital wildlife corridor and supports the people who have always belonged to it.
Location
On the Zambezi strip, four countries meet and animals wander across the borders without noticing them. Mopane woodland, deep Kalahari sand and the slow bend of the Okavango River surround the camp on every side.
Remoteness is the point, and you feel it from the moment you arrive. In place of other vehicles and other guests, there is a living wildlife corridor: elephant on the move, buffalo gathering at the water, sable and roan resting in the shade, and birdlife in numbers that words tend to undersell.
The journey in asks a little of you. That effort is exactly what has kept this place wild.
Experiences
What you do here is shaped by the land and by the people who understand it best. Drives track elephant and buffalo through the mopane; early mornings bring birds you might not meet further south; and on foot, the smaller world comes into focus — the tracks, the plants, the quiet signs of who passed through in the night.
Much of it is told through the Khwe San guides, whose knowledge of this country has been handed down over generations. They read the ground the way others read a page: where the animals have gone, what each tree can offer, and how people have lived alongside this land for longer than any record reaches.
DIRECTIONS TO BUFFALO TENTED CAMP
On the B8 when you reach the Bwabwata National Park, drive along the D3430 for about 10km till you reach Buffalo Tented Camp.
